The design of this sole has undergone long research within our laboratories. It consists of a special rubber formulation to optimise grip and traction. Given the variety of different needs, we always seek the best compromise between muddy off-road trails (like a forest path) and mineral trails (like a coastal path).
Our Fresh concept combines a highly breathable upper with a sole construction that eliminate moisture. This technology was approved in a laboratory and during field tests to ensure that your feet feel dry throughout your summer hikes.
Other laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following elements: tearing of the eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, UV resistance, abrasion of the sole and the components of the upper, accelerated ageing.
Designed for use on nature trails
Our hiking shoes are designed for use on nature trails. Indeed, we choose the components of the sole and upper of our boots and test them to ensure that they are ideally suited to hiking on loose trails (e.g. forest paths made of soil) or rocky trails (e.g. rocky coastal paths). Use on the road (tarmac) may increase the wear of your shoes and make them uncomfortable. They are not suitable for mountain walking.
How do you choose your hiking shoe size?
The sizing of the NH500 Fresh boot is a little small. Don't hesitate to take 1 size above your usual size.
Try on both boots, while standing up, with the socks worn for hiking. Try on several models in different sizes. 2 areas of comfort to be checked: the base of the heel and the front part of the foot going downhill. Avoid any pressure points when fitting. Don't hesitate to walk around the store. Break in your shoes gradually during their first hikes.
The shoe/sock combination plays an important role.
There are many cases of blister when on hikes: rubbing, a crease in the sock, moisture, a boot size that is too small or too big, etc.
It is therefore important choose the right size and to have socks made of the right material for your hiking boots.
How do you choose your hiking sock size?
You must choose the right sock size for your foot so that there are no additional creases in the sock. If your sock is to big, there will be too much material around your feet, whereas if your sock is too small, it will get pulled inside the boot.
How do you choose your hiking sock material?
Moisture must be effectively managed when hiking: this is often unavoidable given that we perspire. If your boot is breathable, it will eliminate the moisture of your perspiration: we therefore recommend choosing a lightweight and breathable pair of socks. If your boots are relatively waterproof, you will not make the same choice to protect you from the moisture of the rain: it is preferable to buy socks that will absorb perspiration, to keep the moisture as far away as possible from your foot.
What socks should you wear with the NH500 FRESH boot?
We recommend that you choose a pair of socks made of polyamide, without cotton. Polyamide is a fibre that is specially chosen for its capacity to eliminate moisture. So when you sweat, the socks made of polyamide will eliminate any moisture. Then, your boots will take over the task of wicking away the moisture to the outside thanks to the ventilated mesh. We recommend the Newfeel WS 500 FRESH socks.
Our hiking boots are guaranteed for 2 years.
