Soles that grip on country trails
The design of the sole has been the subject of extensive research in our laboratories. It is composed of a specific rubber formula which optimises grip and adherence. Given the variety of different needs, we always seek the best compromise for use on country walks where you will encounter obstacles, such as forest trails.
Designed for use on country walks
Our walking shoes are designed for use on country walks. Indeed, we choose and test the components of the soles and uppers of our shoes so that they can best adapt to the practice of hiking on paths with obstacles (such as earthy forest trails) or mineral paths (such as rocky coastal paths). Use on the road (tarmac) can speed up the wear and tear of your shoes and cause you discomfort. They are not suitable for mountain walking.
Discover our Fresh technology
Our Fresh shoe technology combines a very breathable upper and a sole construction that allows the removal of moisture. This technology has been validated in the laboratory and in the field by testers and hikers. These tests are designed to ensure that your feet feel dry throughout your summer hikes.
Laboratory tests are also conducted to validate the following: tearing of eyelets and straps, gluing, toxicology, resistance to UV rays, abrasion of the sole and upper components, accelerated ageing. These tests allow us to improve the quality of our products and prevent premature wear and tear of our walking shoes.
How to choose the size of my walking shoes
Try both boots on, standing up, wearing the socks you use for hiking. Try on several models and sizes if necessary. Check the following two areas of comfort:
- the base of the heel
- the front of the foot on descent
There should be no pressure points when trying them on. Feel free to walk around the store. Break your shoes in gradually during the first few hikes so that they adjust to your feet.
The boot/sock combination plays an important role
The causes of blisters are manifold when walking: rubbing, a crease in the sock, moisture, wearing a size that is too small or too big, etc. It is therefore important to choose the right size and to have socks made of the right material for your walking shoes.
How to choose the size of my walking socks
You must choose the right size sock for your foot, so that there are no additional creases in the sock: If your sock is to big, there will be too much material around your feet, whereas if your sock is too small, it will get pulled inside the shoe.
How to choose the material of my walking socks
Moisture must be effectively managed when walking: you sweat, it's often inevitable. If your shoe is breathable, it will wick away the moisture of your sweat. So you have to choose a lightweight, breathable sock as well. If your shoes are relatively waterproof, you will not make the same choice to protect you from the moisture of the rain: choose a sock which will absorb your sweat, and take it as far as possible away from your foot.
What socks should you wear with the NH100 FRESH shoe?
We recommend that you choose a pair of socks made of polyamide, without cotton. Polyamide is a fibre specially chosen for its ability to remove moisture. So when you sweat, polyamide socks remove any moisture. Then, your shoes will take over the task of wicking away the moisture to the outside thanks to the ventilated mesh. For this, we recommend Newfeel WS500 Fresh socks.
