Technical Information

1
Backpack technical tests.
We conduct lab tests to validate the following: fabrics, buckles, straps, foams, zips, etc. Example, for a fabric: resistance to wear, tearing, colour-fastness under UV rays, washing, waterproofing, etc. A final test on the finished product simulates the kind of treatment to which it will be subjected over several years, to assess the strength of the assembly: The backpack is weighted, then placed on a dummy which reproduces the movement of fast walking through thousands of cycles.
2
10-year technical partnership warranty
The Strenfit component brand, Quechua's partner for researching and testing its components and assemblies, conducted tests simulating backpack ageing. These tests were conducted on the components, the seams and the finished product. The results of these tests are used by Forclaz and Strenfit to guarantee the bags for 10 years from the purchase date shown on the receipt.

How to pack a backpack?
Put your bedding at the bottom. Carry heavy gear (tent, stove, food) closest to your back. Pack your clothes around these items. The groundsheet can be placed under the flap, the tent goes under the bag if it doesn't fit inside. Keep your waterproof jacket and fleece to hand. In the pockets, spread out the small equipment you use during the day (sun cream, map, sunglasses, etc). If carrying a hydration pack (water bladder), this should be placed in its special pocket along the back.
4
How is backpack volume measured?
The volume of each backpack is measured using a standardised method: we fill the main compartment as well as each pocket with little balls. We then empty the balls into a graduated container to measure the equivalent volume in litres within a few percentage points. The net weight is that of our reference sample. There may be slight variations.
5
A score for comparing products' environmental impact
The product's environmental impact is calculated over its entire life cycle using different indicators. An overall score from A to E is given to help you easily identify the most environmentally-friendly products by comparing products of the same type (T-shirts, trousers, backpacks, etc). Decathlon is committed to displaying the environmental data of its products. For more information: http://sustainability.decathlon.com/

Environmental impact: why are our rain covers coloured grey?
Our bags have been created with a view on reducing their environmental impact: for the lining, we used a dye that consumes less water. The grey colour is neutral and therefore consumes less dye. The component is made of BITON: as a result, the environmental impact of the MT900 50L is 7.3% less than the former model: symbium access. By using dope-dye for the lining materials, much less water is consumed than a brightly coloured fabric.

symbium technology
In order to be comfortable, a backpack must also be balanced as you walk along. The symbium technology is an articulation of the waistband that allows the backpack to conform to the trekker's movements when walking. Thanks to the Symbium system, there are no more pendulum effects, which will ultimately tire out the trekker after a while.

Product test
All our backpacks are tested in the field by users who represent the target market under the same conditions as you would encounter in use. In particular, our "Mission Tests" bring together the product manager with people who are not affiliated with QUECHUA to test, improve and validate our products. This specific model was approved by hikers touring Mont Blanc in June 2017.
