Working towards more environmentally-friendly dyes
Our teams work to find innovative processes that reduce water consumption or water pollution during the manufacturing process. The dope dyeing technique (mass pigmentation) saves up to 60% water and significantly reduces CO² emissions. As such, it allows for more sustainable clothes dyeing.
For this jacket, we began this process on the main fabric in navy blue and on the khaki lining, with other colours to follow using this technique.
A score for comparing the products' environmental impact
On a scale of A to E, this product obtained a score of B.
Our products' environmental impacts are calculated over their entire life cycle. A score is given to each product so that you can easily identify the more eco-friendly products within a particular family (t-shirts, trousers, backpacks).
Decathlon is committed to displaying the environmental information of its products.
Complete pocket system
The jacket has seven pockets in total! Two side pockets for warming your hands. Two large external bellows pockets with a flap and press stud closure. One outer chest pocket and one inside pocket with zip closing to secure your personal belongings. One inner mesh pocket, to keep your gloves for example, and keep them warm against your body!
Waterproofing of the garment
The garment passed a shower test under 60 litres of water/sqm/hour for two hours. This test reproduces the average conditions of a rain shower. The fabric of this jacket is water-repellent, i.e. water runs off its surface without being absorbed. As a result, the fabric does not soak up water and stays light and breathable. The water-repellent property is achieved by treating the outer fabric. What's more, we taped 100% of the seams.
How to maintain the waterproof property of your jacket over time
To maintain good waterproofing over time, the fabric's water-repellent properties must be restored regularly. We recommend doing this every three washes or after a dozen uses in the rain. The water-repellent property is easily reactivated by warming the fabric: either in your tumble dryer or with a hairdryer, for example, over a relatively short period. If you are washing it, it must be thoroughly rinsed.
Waterproof rating expressed in mm or Schmerbers
The resistance of a fabric is measured by the height of a water column in mm that can be supported by the fabric (test based on the ISO 811 standard). The higher the pressure, the more waterproof the fabric. A component with a waterproof rating of 2,000 mm can therefore withstand the pressure exerted by a 2,000 mm water column.
Technical hood
The hood height can be adjusted using a drawstring. Its depth can be adjusted using a rip-tab strip located at the back of the hood. The hood has a shape-memory visor that provides good protection for your face.
Component breathability
To find out whether a fabric is breathable, we measure its thermal evaporative resistance coefficient (RET) based on the ISO 11092 standard. The lower the fabric's resistance, the more water vapour generated by physical activity can escape, and the higher the fabric's breathability.
- RET < 9 = extremely breathable fabric
- 9 < RET < 12 = very breathable fabric
- 12 < RET < 20 = breathable fabric
- RET > 20 = little or no breathability
How to choose your waterproof jacket based on your type and level of sporting activity?
During sports activity, the extent to which we perspire depends on the intensity or the duration of the physical effortIf the breathability of the fabric is not adapted to your type of physical activity, the perspiration vapour condenses inside the jacketYou will feel damp insidethis is not rain coming through but perspiration vapour condensingYou therefore need to choose a rain jacket according to your type of physical activityThis jacket is designed for 2 hrs hiking at a max. speed of 5 km/h
Technical linings
The lining of the jacket is composed of two materials: mesh in the back for greater garment breathability and nylon at the hips for freedom of movement and resistance to abrasion. On the hood, we added a peach skin effect fabric that is soft to the touch for greater comfort.
Warranty
Our hiking jackets and waterproofs are guaranteed for 2 years.
